Hi, I am Imran.
I have spent over 20 years working in ecommerce and digital commerce, first in the UK and later in the Middle East.
For much of that time, my work revolved around what customers see and experience online. How do we attract them to a website? How do we help them find what they are looking for? And how do we make it easier for them to buy?
Over the last five years, I have become more involved in what happens behind the scenes. The systems that process orders, the warehouses that fulfil them, the people who make deliveries happen, and the many things that need to work together before a product reaches a customer’s doorstep.
It has changed the way I look at ecommerce.
What appears simple to a customer can be surprisingly complicated behind the scenes. And the more I learn about it, the more I realise how much there is still to understand.
Why I Started This Blog
Over the years, I have read countless articles about ecommerce, digital transformation and omnichannel. Some have been genuinely useful. Others have left me wondering what they actually meant.
There is plenty written about what businesses should do, but not always enough about how things work in practice.
That is what I want to explore here.
I will write about the things I have learned, the challenges I have faced, what has worked and, just as importantly, what has not.
Some posts will explore familiar subjects such as digital marketing, onsite search and customer experience. Others will take us behind the scenes, into the systems and operations that keep an ecommerce business running.
I will also write about omnichannel, technology and AI, and how they are changing the way businesses serve their customers.
Along the way, I will introduce technical terms where they help explain something, without turning every article into a technical manual.
What to Expect
My plan is simple. One thoughtful article every week.
I want to explain things in a way that is easy to follow, drawing on my own experience and using everyday examples wherever possible.
I do not claim to have all the answers. After more than two decades in this industry, I am still learning. And that is one of the things I enjoy most about it.
If something I write helps you understand a subject a little better, question an established way of doing things, or simply look at ecommerce from a different angle, this blog will have served its purpose.
Thanks for stopping by.
